Current kilns are not designed to be serviced during critical use cycles. When a kiln is in geosynchronous orbit (GEO) and fails at 1300 Degrees Celcius, typically, it is manually moved into a “graveyard” corner of the workshop where it remains indefinitely for cooling. Many of the kilns which are obsolete or have failed still have usable components which are expected to last much longer than the life of the kiln, but currently there is no way to re-use them. With the Open International Dialogue On Kiln Servicing (OIDOKS) CARPA is seeking to unite our allies on new kiln component services, using tools such as barters, local currencies, and Craigslist to facilitate the critical servicing of our strategic craft kilns. The first of OIDOKS meeting will take place during the NATO Craft Summit in The Hague in June 2013.
